Master Facilities Community Feedback Series Begins May 31

After narrowing down several options for Lakota’s Master Facilities Plan, the Board of Education is ready to gather input from the community about each proposed plan. The series of upcoming meetings will share more information about the need for a facilities plan, the four options selected by the Board and next steps.

The meetings will be held at different schools throughout the district. Attendees will have the opportunity to take building tours, ask questions and share feedback via Thought-Exchange. “Just driving by our schools won’t give you a clear picture of the state of the building,” said Passarge. “It’s important that our community gain a better understanding about anticipated costs for updating and maintaining our aging facilities.” The average age of Lakota’s facilities is over 33 years.

The first three community meetings are scheduled for:

●       May 31 - West Freshman School

●       June 1 - Hopewell Junior School

●       June 6 - Woodland Elementary School


Building tours will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the meetings starting promptly at 7 p.m.


Summer Food Service Program Begins May 31, Free/Reduced Meal Application Opens July 15

The Lakota Local School District, in partnership with the Faith Alliance, is participating in the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program this year. Meals will be provided daily to all children (ages 1-18 and individuals with disabilities through age 21) - free of charge and regardless of income - beginning May 31 through July 29 (except for July 4). The summer program is funded through the USDA and implemented at no cost to the district.

With the expiration of the USDA’s free meals waiver for all students - regardless of financial qualification - at the end of the 2021-2022 school year, families are reminded to re-apply for free/reduced meals. Applications must be submitted on an annual basis and to qualify for next school year, you must submit your application AFTER July 15.


Submit 2022-2023 Transportation Requests by Aug. 4

To ease the transition to a new school year and honor families’ requests for alternative pick-up and drop-off locations for transportation, Lakota is asking that families submit transportation forms by Aug. 4 to receive transportation on the first day of school.

Grades K-2: Early childhood schools ask that all families complete a form to have on file, even if transportation is not needed.

Grades 3-6: By default, transportation for all eligible students is based on the home address listed in Home Access Center (HAC). All alternative transportation plans are automatically cleared at the end of each school year, so please complete the form before each school year if you’ll require transportation to or from an address different than your home address.

Please honor the published deadlines to receive transportation for the upcoming school year. Note that this is for current families already enrolled at Lakota. New families enrolling will receive transportation information approximately 48 hours after registration is completed.

Bus information will be available to families in HAC beginning on Monday, July 25.

Changes Coming Soon to OneLogin for Parents

Lakota Local Schools is expanding two popular tools for parents and guardians: OneLogin and FinalForms. These changes, which are being introduced over the summer, will save time and increase efficiency for parents and guardians when accessing digital tools and completing district forms. District Seeking Input on 2023-2024 Calendar

Lakota is soliciting community input on the 2023-2024 district calendar. Lakota staff, students, parents and community members are invited to review the current draft before any final recommendation is presented to the school board.

Lakota considers many different factors when drafting the district calendar, including everything from scheduled state assessments and other state mandates to observed holidays and staff training days. When comparing the 2022-2023 calendar to this proposed calendar, there are no major changes.

We value any input you have regarding possible changes to the calendar. Please provide your feedback by Friday, June 10. Feedback will be reviewed and adjustments made, as appropriate. Please click to review the calendar and submit your feedback.


Staff and Returning Families: Open Enrollment Applications due May 31

Each school year, the Lakota Board of Education re-evaluates the district's open enrollment policy and votes on whether or not to approve its renewal. If renewed, students residing in other Ohio school districts can apply to attend Lakota.

Due to the high volume of returning open enrolled students, at this time we are not accepting first-time applicants for the 2022-2023 school year. Per Board Policy 5113 and Administrative Guidelines, we will only be accepting applications from current Lakota staff, as well as returning open enrolled students and siblings of returning open enrolled students. Applicants may not always receive their first school of choice, depending on the school's base enrollment for students residing within its attendance zone.


Current open enrolled students and current Lakota staff will be receiving an email with directions on how to apply for open enrollment. New staff requests must email to receive an application. All completed applications must be submitted to by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
